The Story Behind Rooftop Trails
A lot of us don’t really think about things from such a far-out perspective, but every now and then, if we’re fortunate, we’ll have a moment that really shifts our worldview and makes us feel connected to everyone around us.
For me, that moment came when I was a teenager living in Concepcion, Chile. It was a city where social status was pretty much stamped on you from birth, and it stuck with you for life.
One day, I climbed up to the roof and had a bird’s-eye view of the entire city. There was an intricate network of buildings, and I started jumping from rooftop to rooftop, way above the busy streets. From that height, everyone looked the same. I could not tell who was privileged or struggling, who carried influence or invisibility. They were all just people, going about their lives.

That perspective never left me. From above, we are all the same—and that realization shaped how I see the world. If we are connected, then what we do to each other—and to the planet we share—matters deeply.
When I started this venture, I wanted a name that reflected that idea: unity within diversity. We may not be identical, but we are all part of something larger. At Rooftop Trails, we believe people and the planet are one interconnected system—what is good for the planet is good for us, and what we do to the planet, we ultimately do to ourselves.
Those rooftop moments taught me that a shift in perspective can change everything.
